Table Mountain tours disrupted by rock falls
To those in Cape Town, who’s sadly not on one of our very well organized and informed trips – a quick heads up.
The cable car in Cape Town has been closed due to strong winds, while several rock falls were reported on Tuesday.
As buses and taxis arrive at the cable car parking lot where they offload dozens of tourists, speed boulders lay neatly in bays usually occupied by cars.
Workers have cordoned off a section of the parking lot where the giant rocks landed.
The Table Mountain Arial Cableway Company’s Collette van Aswegen said it is the first time in over 80 years that rocks have fallen this far.
She said luckily the lot was empty at the time, adding that they that are investigating how the boulders dislodged from the mountain.
Meanwhile, several tourists say they are disappointed the cable car is closed for the time being, but some remain positive they will get their chance one day.
